New event production company prepares to launch ongoing concert and event series at the Historic Ashland Armory
Starting August, 2014, a new event production company called Live at the Armory is taking over the venue management of the Historic Ashland Armory, where the company will produce a year-round concert and event series.
Live at the Armory’s objective is to establish the Historic Ashland Armory as a premier West Coast venue on par with other comparably sized venues like Portland’s Crystal Ballroom and San Francisco’s The Fillmore. The venue will host world-class musicians and performers who continuously travel up and down the I-5 corridor, often passing right by Ashland. Live at the Armory will be able to bring a great deal more of these exciting entertainment possibilities to the Rogue Valley.
The company is also making the venue more accessible to local musicians and performing artists. Every month, Live at the Armory will produce “Local Showcase” nights, featuring 3 to 4 local bands of a particular genre (themed shows). The performers will be able to play the best venue in town and enjoy full professional production support with no out-of-pocket expense, while at the same time receiving a percentage of the door revenue. Private rentals of the Great Hall will also continue. Live at the Armory is currently developing a full spectrum of professional event production services to support private rentals, offered a la carte or in packages, which include a full bar, catering, event theme development, photography, live-streaming and video packages, general event planning and talent booking. The company’s objective is to provide everything in-house that one might need to produce classy, successful events.
“The Historic Ashland Armory has served as an important and iconic cultural center for Ashland and the Valley for a long time. We are committed to maximizing the potential of this amazing venue and delivering the highest quality event production experience. We believe that our booking strategy will ensure that the Live at the Armory concert and event series and the Historic Ashland Armory will become nationally recognized as a beacon of sophisticated culture, that also positively contributes to our community in countless ways,” says Jason Gallagher, co-founder.
Improvements to the Great Hall are underway and will continue through the Fall. Among the improvements will be a state-of-the-art media production studio. This will enable the company to offer a range of video services for private and public events, including live-streaming, interactive conferences, and professionally produced videos. Local performers will be able to play at the Armory and leave with a valuable promotional video of their performance.
Other improvements include unique signature menus for food and libations, developed by Live at the Armory’s in-house caterer / bar manager, which will be offered at events produced by the company. “Because we are dedicated to supporting and working with our local farmers, our custom, gourmet menus will change seasonally,” say Jack Stull, the other co-founder.
The founders believe that people who work here in Ashland should be able to afford living here, and thus all employees are paid living wages. As of September, the company will employ an administrative and production staff of 12 with an anticipated 3-5 events per week. There are also an abundance of internship programs for local university and high school students to gain valuable work experience, and volunteer positions available for people who would like to trade their hours for tickets (contact firstname.lastname@example.org).
The venue is conducting a “soft launch” during the month of August (“Local Showcase Month”) in order to test all of the new systems and streamline the event experiences. The month will commence on August 9th with March Fourth Marching Band and SambaDá, and will be followed by a series of concerts by of some of the region's best local talent. Live at the Armory will conduct an ongoing, robust marketing campaign in the Rogue Valley and beyond up and down the West Coast, consisting of a diversity media channels, including radio, pandora, internet advertising, flyering and postering, event announcements, video spots and more. This multitude of advertising modalities will provide local business and organizations a powerful way to get the word out by becoming sponsors.
“Even though this community already thrives off of art and culture, we believe that the people are hungry for more. Live at the Armory is going to provide it, and provide it in style,” say Gallagher.
